Arrrrrriba!! Rrrrrriba!

So keeping with the theme of my recap of wines I enjoyed while being back home….

We’re going ‘South of the Border’!

Well food-wise that is…during my vacation back home, I was on a mission to cook/consume as much Mexican/Tex-Mex food as possible. (While still not having to do too much damage to my waist-line) So here is a look into one of those nights….

I handmade green enchiladas! I love me some Enchiladas Verdes!!

I made a big ole pot of black beans. I have the most difficult time finding black beans here in France so I had a major year long craving for black beans!

I went into 100% pure Texan mode and grilled up some Poblano Peppers and Veggies! My dad is a BBQ extraordinaire and so I decided to take advantage of his BBQ playland outside. I thought he was going to have a breakdown when he saw me touching his babies (aka massive bbq pits)

My mom did the de-seeding.

Roasted Squash

Roasted Bell Peppers & Red Onion

They had stuffed crab on sale at the market, so I just had to add this onto the menu =)

So keeping with our ‘South of the Border’ theme….

Tee Hee……Snicker Snicker…….I mean come on…..you know that picture shot was totally necessary hahahahaha. The wine, as you can see is from Cap Rock Winery. And the grape type……..is…….you can do this……Mmmm…..Rrrrrr……..Llllllll…….Oooooh! Good job! =P Here is a link to their website: Cap Rock Winery It is a winery located in Lubbock, Texas. And my dear friend John Montoya aka John Fabulous, brought over like 100 bottles while I was home visiting. John said he mentioned that he was an avid Vinously Speaking Blog Reader when he went to the Cap Rock Winery, and they gave him several bottles from their wine portfolio to give to the Ceci Sipper to showcase on the blog. Ok, so not really, but one day I hope this blog will become that HUGE that situations like that will happen um, daily! And it will, don’t worry =) Anywho, we had
both the Merlot and Chardonnay from this winery. The wine an easy drinking wine, very dark red wine, and had heavy red fruit flavors like plum, black cherry with a hint of some spice. I was quite surprised to find how balanced and delicious a wine from Lubbock, Texas could be. It has won a bronze medal in 2008 at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo International Wine Competition. The 2005 Chardonnay (not pictured) was creamy, with some green apple action and a nice refreshing finish. It won the silver medal at the 2008 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo International Wine Competition. So I give the Vinously Speaking stamp of approval to this wine! I recommend them for those nice Texas BBQs. There are 6 other wines in their portfolio listed on their site, and it looks like there is something for any wine drinker’s style.

The next wine we had was from the South African winemaker Graham Beck and was a Brut Rose. I mentioned this winemaker in a previous post about Obama and his presidential wine preferences and that Obama toasted his election victory with bubbly made by Graham Beck!

Ok [START NERDY TIME] This specific wine, Brut Rose, is made with 55% Chardonnay grapes and 45% Pinot Noir hand picked grapes coming from vineyards located in Robertson, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch (South Africa). The chardonnay and pinot noir juices were fermented seperately, then fined and blended, then are bottled and undergo a 2nd fermentation in the bottle laying on the residual yeast aka “lees” that give this wine a subtle yeasty character. (which I know sounds weird but is a good flavor for bubbly (in my opinion)) If you want to read up more on what “aging on the lees/sur lie” is and entails, here is a wikipedia link. The wine also had a yummy cherry/raspberry taste, so when you add that to the yeasty quality…..imagine a cherry/raspberry muffin or bread….. So how does a rose wine get its pink color? Well when you juice chardonnay and pinot noir grapes you get roughly the same off white color, but when you leave the pinot noir grape skins in with the pinot noir grape juice, the color from the grape skins ‘bleeds’ into the juice giving it a pink color after a short time and a red color after a long time together. [END NERDY TIME] Hope you learned a bit about this wine and something new about wine in general!

So be Presidential and go out and by this wine, give it a try! YES YOU CAN!

Back to the food, my Dad whipped up some doctored avocados. He put this Valentino spicy sauce on it (available at HEB) BIG FAN OF VALENTINO SAUCE MmmmmmM!

The final look!

Playing with my food….=)

Don’t know…but I thought the ribbon from my Christmas present from my friend Laura Evans
looked really great on my head =) Just a heads up, the links to John Montoya “Fabulous” and Laura Evans are to their respective sites they have as actors. For some reason actors love me, I swear more of my friends play some role in the acting/filming industry then any other concentration. Perhaps it is cause I am such a HAM =)

Anyways, hope you learned something, hope I made you laugh/smile, and hope to see you back here on Vinously Speaking!!
