Strategic Planning for PROWEIN 2010

Hello Vinous Readers,

I leave this Saturday for ProWein, the international leading trade fair for the wine and spirits business, held in Dusseldorf, Germany. I am in full recon mode and am channeling my “inner military” persona and preparing for intelligence preparation of the battlespace.

The Battlespace – PROWEIN 2010.

The troops – 3,400+ wine/wine related exhibitors.

The ammunition – the Wine and the exhibit representatives.

Their strategy – To seduce with their wines and their vinous propaganda =)

Whatever is a wine soldier to do?

Needless to say
this is where you gain a concentrated overview of current developments and trends around the globe. There are 3,400+ exhibitors from 45 countries, 35,000+ visitors from 50 countries and over 1000 journalists from all over the world. Vinously Speaking is unofficially one of those =) I am trying to get a press pass, so cross your fingers. There are of course incredible amounts of booths to taste wine from all over the world, information events offered by the exhibitors, as well as seminars offered throughout the 3 days of the event on various aspects of the wine industry. You can visit the official ProWein Site for more information: http://www.prowein.com/

I have asked several friends/acquaintances of mine for their advice on which exhibitors and wines are a must see. I have also sent out twits asking people for their advice and have received quite a few suggestions and invitations. I have also signed up for a few seminars I find interesting.

I am going to attempt to blog while I am at ProWein to keep you Vinous Readers updated and offer you a virtual experience of this event. (Maybe a little video action is called for =P)

I am so excited for this trip! I am going with my Masters in Wine Business Program so in addition to personal activities I will be engaging in at ProWein, I also have exercises to complete for my Masters to include: contact databasing, planning of our event approach, our expectations from the show, review of our days at the show and the trip as a whole, customer relationship management, and applied wine marketing component of observing and evaluating what makes a successful exhibition stand.

So needless to say I have my hands full. If any of you have any suggestions, have been to a wine trade show and have some pointers, or just want to send me some love. Drop me a comment!

Vinously Speaking & Vinously Yours,
The Ceci Sipper
